Visual Research

Idea Exploration

Idea #1

I started with a simple sketch of myself.

Figure 7.0 Sketches

Figure 7.1 Sketches

I trace the outline using a black marker and decided to remove the eyes. Then, I tried to play with watercolors. I hope to create a colorful self-portrait.

After that, I decided to color the black ground to black to create a contrast to my portrait.

Figure 7.2 First outcome

I was not satisfied with the first outcome. I think that the first outcome did not show any traits of myself. Hence, I decided to create another one.

Idea #2

Figure 7.4 About me

For this time, I hope to do a digitalized one. I first sketch out my ideas in my sketchbook.

After that, I added different filters and textures to the artwork using Adobe Photoshop.

Final Design

Figure 7.8 Final outcome

I decided to add things I like to my self-portrait. I replace my left eye with the camera lens and my right eye with an egg. I decided to remain my glasses and the peace hand sign because I think that they are my signature pose and the object that can represent me well. I decided to use flowers as my eyebrows because I like colorful flowers, it can cheer me up whenever I feel down. For my head, I decided to have the flow of music. To emphasize my portrait, I colored the background using light blue with some clouds texture. I also added different filters and textures to the artwork. I used mostly light colors to create harmony in the artwork.

FEEDBACK

Dr. Charles said that it is good to have the map out of myself (Figure 7.4). The final outcome contains many different elements. Dr. Charles said that he can see music plays a big part in my life but the things that make him look at more are the lens and the egg. The lens has the most contrast.

BRIEF REFLECTION

I tried different attempts for this project 1. I had a lot of fun doing it because I could also express myself in this project. I did explore more about myself after completing this project.
