LECTURES
The title for this week's lecture is Poster Design Development. A poster can help us to convey information to the target audience. Besides, it also helps in creating awareness on an issue. After that, we are introduced to project 2 which is to create a poster on the issue of refugees in Malaysia. We are required to research this topic before we start to design the poster. Later on, Mr. Martin also showed us a video about refugees in Malaysia.
For this exercise, we are required to watch a pre-recorded video and follow it step-by-step to learn about photo manipulation. We are given 2 pictures which include the shazam and Hearst mansion. We need to photoshop shazam to the Hearst mansion. Besides, we are required to photoshop ourselves into the Hearst mansion too. We are required to take a photo that matches the angle from eye level and photoshop ourselves into the heart mansion.

We have to recolor a black and white image using Adobe Photoshop. We are also given a pre-recorded video that shows us the steps to recolor the image.
After that, we have to choose one black and white portrait from the google drive files that Mr. Martin provided.
"A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war or violence. A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in particular social group. Most likely, they cannot return home or are afraid to do so. War and ethnic, tribal ad religious violence are leading causes of refugees fleeing their countries." is the definition given by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Besides, the UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people.
I had been working for a project that help refugees in Malaysia back in 2019 for 3 months and I think that many Malaysians are lacking in knowledge regarding refugees including myself before I joined that project. Malaysians usually relate refugees to people who need help and support but did not know the real definition of a refugee. Moreover, Malaysian always perceive refugees as an issue for our country due to their negative perceptions towards refugees.
Refugees in Malaysia do not have access to legal documentation, education, healthcare and they are seen as a threat in Malaysia. Many people think that they do not deserve the protection, freedom, access to proper healthcare, education and sufficient work opportunities with the reason of they are not citizens of Malaysia. However, the refugees need these circumstances to sustain a better life here in Malaysia, while they escape the danger from their home countries.
Furthermore, numerous non-governmental organizations such as Asylum Access, SHELTER and Tenaganita are working on various campaigns to fight for the rights of refugees, but the lack of awareness in the society inhibits these efforts from achieving its maximum effect. Hence, more help and support should be given to them so that they could ease the burden of the refugees who are in constant fear.

TITLE: They are HERE for HOPE

match colour + change arrangement.
This is a poster with the composition of 2 refugee kids. The focus of the title is 'HERE' and 'HOPE' because I think that their eyes can talk. Both of them have different facial expressions but I think that both of them are having 'HOPE' in their eyes. 'HERE' means here in Malaysia, which can be linked to the fence. Most of the refugees are blocked from entering other countries. However, most people do not understand why they are here. Hence, I designed this poster to raise awareness of refugee issues with the slogan of 'spread the word and raise awareness'. I hope that Malaysians could pay more attention to refugee issues. Refugees deserve to have human rights too.
