INSTRUCTIONS
Task 1 - Proposal
We formed a WhatsApp group for our group after the briefing and grouping. We
then began to discuss and brainstorm different ideas for selecting the culture
we are interested in for this module in the WhatsApp group. Ellis afterward
proposed "Furry Fandom," which we all agree is a very interesting topic to
discuss.

Later on, we are given time to do some research on various cultures and
present our findings and ideas.

After everyone presented on their ideas, we then conducted a voting session to
decide on the culture for our group project.
Figure 1.5 Votes, 5.1.2022
Linocut and Wes Anderson both ended up with the same number of votes.
Figure 1.6 Calculated votes, 5.1.2022
After another round of research, everyone agreed on choosing
the Wes Anderson style because we think that this topic of
interest allows us to have more possible approaches for the final outcome. After the consultation with our advisor, Ms. Anis, we think that we can work on the topic of applying the Wes Anderson Style into Malaysian celebrations and festivity.
After that, we started to brainstorm on the 5 preliminary ideas for this
proposal.
Figure 2.0 Janice Suggestion, 8.1.2022
I proposed that we make a "explosion" box, inspired by Janice's idea. A 3D model of KLCC could be placed in the centre of the box. Furthermore, information about different festivals and races can be placed inside the box's "pocket" on the side.
Figure 2.1 Suggestion, 9.1.2022
However, we are having difficulty putting things together because if we do something in the Wes Anderson style for a Malaysian festival, it will be considered inappropriate. We realise that this idea will lead us more toward Malaysian culture than Wes Anderson's. Hence, we decided to change our topic to reviving Wes Anderson's aesthetic in Malaysia through reintroducing landmarks of Malaysia.
To gain a better understanding of Wes Anderson's style, everyone of our group members spent some time watching or rewatching some of Wes Anderson's films. In addition, we divided our workload to conduct research on different aspects of Wes Anderson's style for the proposal. I'll be in charge of the cinematography and colour palette for Wes Anderson's movies.
After we completed the slides, we divided the proposal into 7 parts for presentation.

FEEDBACK
Week 1
Ms. Anis commented on the good choice of topic (she loved it). Ours appears to have a clear direction and some ideas for the end result; we simply need to work backwards and focus more on one specific area (suggested: Malaysia's celebrations and festivals)
Look at how Wes Anderson celebrates festivities , instead of as a whole
Apply Wes Anderson style into Malaysian celebrations festivities (Eg: celebratory kits, greeting cards, angpao, stationary)
Can be 3-4 festivities, if one need to be comprehensive
Interviewees & questions can be quite general (eg. Ask How they celebrate these festivals, which favourite film from Wes Anderson)
Week 2
Ms. Anis: 1. Rationale, Research Problem
cohesive
overall direction is good-to-go
use the word landmark
highlight the key points
Amendments:
Research Problem: To revive Malaysian.. (use back same key word)
Research Questions & Research Objectives: put the main purpose in No.1
2. Idea suggestion part
a guide book can combine with postcard
insta filter (not really preferred)
miniature sounds interesting
compilation of photography exhibition
Week 4
Ms. Anis said that we have a good proposal and she does not have much comments. Ms. Anis also suggested us to combine idea 1 and 2/3.
REFLECTION
I would say this module is challenging because it requires extensive research in order to gain a thorough understanding of the culture. To be honest, I had zero knowledge of the Wes Anderson style before starting this project. I would say that Wes Anderson was a totally new thing in my life. Throughout all the research and intense studies on Wes Anderson, I feel that his style is amazing and I am in love with pastel colours and symmetry composition now. I am glad that I learned something new through all the research and reading.
